Scholarships and Grants

Scholarships and Grants are funded by Sci 5
The ISSS will be awarding multiple SCI 5 Scholarships worth more than $15,000 to students who demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, innovation, and extracurricular involvement. This year the ISSS will also be awarding Professional Development (PD) Grants to support students who wish to attend professional conferences. Students must have paid SCI 5 to be eligible.
Description of Awards
Outstanding Achievement in Science Scholarship
- Up to five (5) scholarships valued at $750.00 each.
- Candidates must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 and must have taken a minimum of twenty-four (*24) credits toward their current undergraduate degree by the end of Winter term 2023.
- Candidates must be enrolled full-time (according to the University of Alberta definition) in the current academic year.
- Special consideration will be given to well-rounded students with strong academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, and recommendation letters.
Science Involvement Scholarship
- Up to four (4) scholarships valued at $750.00 each.
- Candidates must have contributed their time to supporting the greater science community.
- Candidates must demonstrate a combination of volunteerism and leadership.
- Preference will be given to students who are involved with a recognized COSSA group.
- Candidates must be in satisfactory academic standing (according to the University of Alberta definitions).
The Future of Science Scholarship
- Up to five (5) scholarships valued at $1000.00 each.
- Candidates must create a creative and original essay to one of the provided prompts.
- Candidates should demonstrate interest in research and discovery within Science.
- Candidates must be in satisfactory academic standing (according to the University of Alberta definitions).
Women in Science Scholarship
- Up to four (4) scholarships valued at $1000.00 each.
- Candidates must identify as female.
- Candidates must create a creative and original essay to one of the provided prompts.
- Candidates should be able to illustrate current inequities and potential avenues of growth for women in science, based on their own personal experiences.
- Candidates must be in satisfactory academic standing (according to the University of Alberta definitions).
